Introduction

The Education Doctorate programme is practitioner-oriented and designed to be of functional significance to the practice of education management.

This holistic programme aligns applied scholarly research with professional practices and provides the opportunity to theoretically learn and reflect on activities and practices to be applied in a professional context.

The Education Doctorate degree ( EdD) intended to allow learners the opportunity to embark on careers as applied researchers, consultants, and senior management roles.

Delivery Mode

(a) Mode A: Blended Learning mode

Each taught unit will have a total of 12 hours of face to face lectures and 18 hours of online tutoring and online interactions with the Unit/ Module Leader.

(b) Mode B: Fully Online mode

Each taught unit will have a total of 18 hours of Online Learning, tutorials and interactions with the Unit/ Module Leader.

Duration: Expected duration of completion: 12 months

Learning Support

Students will be provided access to online learning and management system which enable a student to:

  • Access guide and tutorial on how to use the online learning system
  • Access online learning materials for each module
  • Reference materials including case studies, articles and ebooks
  • Access to online Module Leader via the online discussion postings
  • Access to download assignment questions
  • Access to submit and upload assignment online
  • Supervisors to guide Thesis
  • Check results

Note: Students on Blended Learning mode at Approved Learning centre will have between 10-12 hours of face to face classes per module conducted by approved facilitators.

Assessment

1. All Taught Modules
100% Coursework with word count of between 3500-4000 words.

2. Thesis
100% Thesis submitted with word count of between  a minimum of 20000 To a maximum of 30,000 words. Mandatory Viva to defend Thesis.

Entry Requirements

  • Possess a recognised Master’s degree in the relevant field, OR
  • Other qualifications recognised by the Horizons University as equivalent to a Master degree.
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency in order to participate in the programme taught in English.

Advanced Standing (APL)

Advanced Standing / Exemptions / Credits Transfer (APL)

Consideration for the above for students admitted onto the programme may be considered either at the beginning of a programme, or beyond the beginning of a programme, through an assessment of that student’s prior learning, whether certificated or un-certificated.  The process for making such a decision is known as the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) is a matter of academic judgment exercised by the appointed panel considering applications and approvals of APL.

Where cohorts of students are to be admitted with advanced standing on a regular basis, the arrangement should be subject to an Academic Progression Agreement.

Overall Programme Outcomes

On successful completion of the programme, students will be able to

Assessments

Instead of having written assignments against every Module,  learner compile a reflective and evidence based portfolio.  This is to demonstrate the acquisition and application (in the work place) of the knowledge, skills and attributes showcasing managerial development

Graduates of the London Examinations Board Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration or the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation or the are only required to undertake a work based project of between 7,000 and 8,000 words to achieve their iMBA

Entry Requirements

An applicant may be admitted on the basis of evidence to suggest that he/she will be able to fulfil and benefit from the objectives of the programme and achieve the standard required for the award

A number of criteria are used in considering admissions to the programme including candidates’ language proficiency, academic and professional qualifications. And includes the following:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree qualification in any subject from a recognised institution
  • A professional qualification equivalent to a degree and a minimum of two years of working experience
  • Mature and high potential candidates without degree or equivalent qualifications but hold Diplomas or Advanced Diplomas with more than six years of work experience of which at least two years are at supervisory – managerial level
  • Mature and high potential candidates without Diploma qualifications but with more than 8 years of work experience of which at least 3 years are at supervisory / managerial levels
  • Demonstrate English Language proficiency in order to participate in the programme taught in English

Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration are only required to undertake the dissertation

End Point Assessment – Work Place Development Portfolio

Professional Development Portfolio of 4,000 – 5,000 word Reflective Log plus appendices consisting of collection of relevant artefacts to support an achievement of work-based knowledge, behaviours and attributes to be submitted within two months of completing the last module

Work Based Project 

The Work Based Project of between 7,000 and 8,000 words accrues 30 ECTS credits

(a) To complete the programme and gain the BA (Hons) in Business Administration with chosen specialisation award, students must successfully complete and earn a total of 120 UK credits made up of 90 credits 6 taught modules and a 30 credits Work Based Project which must be based on chosen specialisation area or the equivalent of 60 ECTS,

(b) Each semester/ term will be delivered over duration of 6 weeks per module where the cycle of delivery will follow a prescribed unit planner for a full academic year.

(c) Duration of completion is 10-12 months

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements for the programme are as follows:

  • Applicants for Direct Entry to this Level 6 Top Up programme will be expected to have 240 credits or equivalent gained on a business-related programme such as Foundation Degree, Higher National Diploma or  Diploma or equivalents.
  • No specific syllabus mapping is required but successful applicants will have covered key functional areas of business (i.e. Operations, Finance, HRM & Marketing)
  • Mature students without formal qualifications, but with appropriate experience, may be admitted to the course in-line with the policy and provision for Accreditation of Prior Learning and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning regarding mature students.
  • Demonstrate English Language proficiency in order to participate in the programme taught in English.
